Waikato Hospital is a major public hospital located in Hamilton, New Zealand that offers a range of services, including cardiac surgery care for the Te Manawa Taki region. Waikato Cardiothoracic Unit provides cardiothoracic surgery, to the extended region.  In total, serving a total population of approaching one million.   It is a specialised 650 bed based hospital with all diagnostic and treatment facilities on one campus and a total staff of more than 5000 people.

Cardiothoracic Unit 

Within Waikato Cardiothoracic Unit we treat a wide spectrum of challenging surgical pathology.  Our surgeons have expertise in:

• Off-pump coronary revascularisation

• Mitral valve repair

• Complex aortic surgery

• Uniportal VATS lobectomy

• Rib fixation and chest wall reconstruction

International fellows are afforded excellent clinical experience and theatre exposure. There is ample opportunity to present and publish academic work with the support of the unit.
